Another name for Esther (Esth 2:7), probably her given Hebrew name. “Esther” is a Babylonian or Persian name (the goddess Ishtar or “star”), which may have been the name given her in the royal court (Esth 2:8-9) or a name adopted in conformity with Persian style.
